WRITING EMAIL RESPONSES

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

Hey everyone, here is a quick activity to practice writing informal and business emails.

Writing is a great way to check the spelling and grammar of your students, as well as mimic some real-life situations like responding to an email. Often, I have students who speak well but can’t write well. Also, I think that writing long essays can be boring and unrealistic for many students. That’s why short email responses can be a great alternative.

There are informal student emails and formal business emails in the writing section of the site.

Read an email together and ask your students to write a response using the provided notes.

I start by looking at an email with the students in class, eliciting responses, and writing them on the board. Then I ask students to write responses in groups or alone.

There is a 2-minute timer if you want. However, if it’s a beginner group, I don’t set a time limit.

Enjoy,

John
