There is vs.There are

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

Hey everybody, John from Cool English with another new activity for you. This week I have “There is vs. There are”. I know this is a common problem for Basic to Intermediate-level students. I am sure these eight reviews will certainly help.

Learn – a simple chart explaining the meaning and structure.

Multiple Choice – There are two levels of fill-in-the-blank sentences and clickable answers, each with a high-quality picture.

Fill-In-The-Blanks – Use the pictures to finish the sentences. Click on them to reveal the answers.

Ask/Answer Pictures – Use the given words to ask and answer there is/there are questions about the pictures.

Questions & Answers – Ask and answer 12 questions that are missing there is/there are.

Rewrite The Phrases – Change odd sentences into more common ones using there is/there are.

Video Clips – Watch 3-second video clips and repeat the "there is/there are" phrase. Award points for correct responses.

Test – an auto-correcting 10-question test of multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank options.

I like to go over 2-3 of them in class and assign some others for homework. Remember you can send the activity link to your students via email, WhatsApp, SMS, Discord, etc.

I hope this helps in your classes, and please check back next week for another new activity.

John
