Hey guys, John from Cool English with three writing/speaking activities to share. I call them Research Topics, and they are great to get students speaking or have them go home and research to write essays.
First is Past Technology, a picture set of 20 old tech devices. Ask students to try and explain what the devices were. You can also ask questions like, what did it do, why was it popular, why is it no longer used, and what do we use now instead? It's a great way to practice talking about the past.
The second is American Culture, this set of 20 pictures refers to famous things in the USA. Some are easy, like the statue of liberty and apple pie, but some are more challenging and might need research like Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn or Fast Casual restaurants. These are great to start conversations and assign as research/writing homework.
The third is Fascinating Research Topics, this is a much more advanced set of fascinating stories that most students will not know. Ask them to research on google and present their findings orally or in written form. Sometimes I will use this as a listening exercise by telling the class one of the stories and then asking comprehension questions after.
All three of these are just springboards for you to get your students speaking/writing. I hope it helps and as always, let me know if I can improve them in any way.
John
