Hey guys, it's John from Cool English again with some new activities to share. I have a pronoun review for basic levels and new Super Bowl commercials for intermediate and advanced students.
Let’s start with the pronoun review. This one is focused on subject and object pronouns. As always there are many ways to review like a learning diagram, multiple-choice, error correction, word replacement, video clips, and even a self-correcting test. Everything is interactive with high-quality pictures and a modern design.
Second, I have my annual tradition of selecting some of the best Super Bowl ads from this year’s broadcast. There are 20 ads and some key vocab for each one. The goal is to get students to retell the story. I really love this activity as it is very adaptable depending on your needs. For example, with lower-level students, I pre-teach the key vocab and pause the video every few seconds to have them tell the story in small chunks. For stronger students I challenge them to create the keyword list themselves, trying to find the most important words needed to retell the story. I also explain to all the students that these ads cost 10 million dollars for 30 seconds and that Americans love to judge the ads and decide which were best. So, I ask them to grade the ads on a scale of 1-10 and then decide which was the best after watching a few of them. Finally, this is just a great way to start some conversations about the ads and products or companies in them. I normally do 2-3 in class and then assign 2-3 more for homework.
