Hey everybody, John from Cool English with the weekly new activities. This week I have some new songs for you to use in class. In the rock category, I have the 80’s classic Sweet Child of Mine by Guns and Roses, and in the Country category Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton. I have started using the actual videos in the activities now to make it more interesting for our students. As always, the activities are comprehensive, with many options listed below.
Multiple Choice – play short clips of the music videos and have students choose between two-word options. If you click correctly, it highlights green and if incorrect red.
Fill in the Blanks – same as above but with fill in the blanks that reveal the word when clicked. There is also a button to switch between the two options.
Lyric Video – pause the lyric video every few seconds right after the lyrics disappear to have your students repeat. It is a great test of their memory.
Official Video – play the video as above and pause it for students to repeat. It is harder than the lyric video as they can’t read.
Karaoke Video – a fun way to get the class to sing along to the lyrics. I like to use this at the end of the lesson to see how much they've learned.
Printable Worksheet – a downloadable PDF with multiple choice and fill in the blank options to print out before class. There are also three comprehension questions.
Remember, you don’t need to do the whole song in class. Sometimes I start it and only do half, then assign the rest as homework.
