New Kids Songs

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

Hey everybody, John from Cool English with another fun activity to share. I am starting to add children's songs to the music section of the site. Currently, I have “You’re Welcome” from Moana and “Let It Go” from Frozen. I will be adding more shortly and would love some requests. As always, there are multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank options with links to the lyric, official, and karaoke videos. Finally, I have a downloadable PDF if you want to print it out for your students.

I love using songs in my classes as they always liven up the lesson, and I feel they are so easily adaptable to many levels of students. I also like to go over little common expressions or pronunciations in the songs. Depending on how much time you have, do the whole song or just a few pages, and assign the rest as homework. You can easily send a link to their email or WhatsApp.

First, I use either the multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blank activity depending on the level. I either have the students write the answers or tell me verbally by taking turns.

Second, I use the lyric video. I play a line or two and pause it when the lyrics disappear. Then I have the students repeat the line. I find this a fun way to work with memory forming and pronouncing phrases.

Third, I use the original video. I play a line or two and pause it. I ask the students to repeat the phrase alternating between students each line or halfway through them.

Finally, I use the karaoke video. I ask the students to sing along either as a group or taking turns, one or two lines each.

Of course, you can use this any way you want, and please let me know if you have other ideas.

John

We Don't Talk about Bruno and Pressure, both from Encanto, are what the kids are into these days! :)
