Hello everyone, John from Cool English with a couple new Christmas activities to share. This week I have new Xmas versions of Picture Description and Fail Army Videos. Also, just a reminder to try out the Christmas Vocabulary set in the Holiday vocab section.
Picture Description – this activity of describing pictures can be used with all levels of students and comes with an easy set of 4 words or a harder set of 8, for students to use and describe the pictures. There are sample phrases for them to read. I gamify it by giving points for correct sentences. Great to prepare for Cambridge tests, review Christmas vocab, practice identifying and modifying nouns and verbs, or to get the class talking a little. I like to do a few in class and assign the rest as homework.
Fail Army Xmas – this activity of describing accidents in short videos, can be used with all levels of students. It just depends how much scaffolding you want to provide them. For Basic students, I ask them to identify simple verbs or try to create simple phrases. For intermediate and advanced students, I ask them to retell the story in either present or past tense. I like to do a few in class and assign the rest as homework.
Christmas Vocabulary – this fun set of 30 Xmas words is a great December review. There are many ways to practice, from photos and videos to games and tests. It’s not new, but maybe some of you haven't seen it.
