This week at Cool English, we're excited to announce a revamped version of our popular "10 Question Challenge," now designed to enhance your students' listening and speaking skills across different accents and levels of language proficiency. Whether you're teaching beginners or advanced learners, this activity is perfect for everyone!
New Structure, More Challenges
The updated challenge is organized into six levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2, following the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Each level features three sets of 10 questions, tailored to progressively increase in complexity and linguistic nuance.
Diverse Accents for Global Exposure
One of the most exciting features of the new challenge is the incorporation of various accents. Each of the 10 questions in a set is voiced in a different accent, providing students with a rich, global listening experience. This diversity aims to improve their ability to understand English spoken by different native and non-native speakers.
Interactive and Adaptable Learning
Here’s how it works:
1. Students click on a number to play a question in a unique accent.
2. After listening, they click the blue check if they understood the question, or the red X if they didn't.
3. Students are encouraged to replay questions they struggled with to improve comprehension.
4. Once all questions have been attempted, they can click "Reveal Question List" to see all 10 questions written out. This feature allows them to practice asking the questions themselves, further enhancing their speaking skills.
Versatile Educational Tool
This activity doesn't just train students to understand different accents; it also helps them develop their ability to respond to and ask questions. It’s a comprehensive exercise that covers multiple aspects of language learning:
· Listening: Understand questions in various accents.
· Speaking: Practice pronouncing and asking questions correctly.
· Comprehension: Confirm understanding of each question’s content.
Implementation in Class
Start this activity in your classroom to gauge the initial comfort and skill level of your students. Depending on their performance, assign the rest of the questions as homework. This not only ensures continuous learning but also allows students to work at their own pace, reinforcing their listening and speaking skills outside the classroom.
Embrace the updated "10 Question Challenge" and watch your students become more confident and proficient in handling diverse English communication situations. Let the challenge begin! John
