HOMOPHONES GAME

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

Hey everyone, John from Cool English again with a fun little game based on Homophones. There are basic, intermediate, and advanced levels each, with 12 questions. Learning homophones is a great way to practice pronunciation and learn new vocabulary in a fun way.

First, I explain what homophones are and give an easy example like I and eye. I explain that although they appear very different, we say them the same.

Next, I separate the class into teams and explain that they will see two clues, the answers of which are homonyms. So, if they know one answer they kind of know the other. I have them choose a number and read the clues. Either the first team to say the answer gets the points or have everyone write the answers and award points to each team that got it right.

Remember, you don’t have to use this competitively. Frequently I go through the questions with the class and don’t worry about points or teams.

I hope this can be a fun little warmer or end of class game. Please let me know if I can improve it in any way.

John
