Halloween Scary Stories and Good/Bad A-Z Vocab

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

Hey everyone, John from Cool English with two amazing new activities for you. As it is October, I have another Halloween activity called Scary Stories and a fun vocabulary game called Good or Bad A-Z.

Scary Stories – this activity has six famous short stories that are scary but not graphic, so they should be ok for older kids/teens. However, please use your own discretion and always look at the material first if you are in doubt. Each story has five vocabulary words to learn, three comprehension questions, and three conversation questions. Read in class as a group, in pairs, or you can assign it as homework to read alone.

Good or Bad A-Z – This activity challenges students to think of how many words they know that mean good or bad. When we travel, we commonly describe the places, things, and people we encounter with positive or negative adjectives, so expanding this vocabulary will help our students. First, choose Good or Bad, then choose simple list (1 word for each letter) or long list (5-6 for each letter). Finally, ask them to think of a word for each letter of the alphabet that means good or bad. You can click on the letters to reveal sample answers. I like to use the simple list for more basic groups and the long list for more advanced groups, especially those studying for TOEFL, IELTS or FCE/CAE.

Please let me know if you have any questions or doubts about how to use these activities in class, and don’t forget to check back next week for more new stuff at coolenglish.net.
