Hey everybody, today I would like to share a basic verb vocab and grammar activity with many reviews and an auto-graded test. I know that basic verbs and grammar can be boring, so I hope that these fun interactive reviews will make it a little more entertaining.
First, I introduce the 10 verbs and draw attention to the pairs run/jump, read/write, drive/fly, dance/sing, sit/stand.
Second, in the learn section of the activity, you will be able to quickly click on the 4 basic verb tenses and if you click on the question / positive/ negative buttons you will see a sample phrase. I normally choose one verb tense per verb and ask the students what the positive statement is, then the negative, and finally the interrogative (you can choose any order, I find this one easiest). I award points accordingly and then move to another verb and verb tense. The students like this game and it makes practicing verb tenses and structure more dynamic. Also, you can adapt it to your class, for example, just focus on the simple present and continuous, it's up to you.
Third, I review with the 4 different review games.
Video Clips - Watch the videos, identify the verb, tense, and form. Award points. It's a great activity to hear and see the verbs and grammar.
Who Verb Where – Join three pictures into a phrase, the who + the verb + the where. Just like in the learn section there are 4 tenses and 3 forms to quickly alternate between them. Fun and challenging review.
Open Questions – 12 questions with the basic verbs and various tenses. Great way to get students speaking in class or record and send for homework.
Definition Jeopardy – A fun jeopardy style game to hear or read the definitions and then students need to say the verb.
Finally, there is an auto-grading test with 10 fill-in-the-blank questions based on pictures.
That’s it I will be adding more of these activities and hope that you enjoy them. Please let me know if I can improve anything.
John
