https://www.coolenglish.net/edu/categories/ted-talks?page=1 (videos section) This week, we are thrilled to introduce two fantastic video activities designed to challenge and engage your intermediate to advanced students. These activities will not only enhance listening comprehension but also improve speaking and critical thinking skills.
1. Shark Tank Shorts: Updated Edition š¦š”
We have a new and updated edition of the ever-popular Shark Tank Shorts! This series features entrepreneurs pitching their companies to a panel of ruthless investors. Hereās how the activity works:
Watch the Video: Students watch a 2-minute presentation, with the option to view with or without subtitles.
Learn Key Vocabulary: Key terms from the pitch are provided with definitions to aid understanding.
Answer Comprehension Questions: Three comprehension questions are included, complete with sample answers.
This activity is excellent for honing listening comprehension and speaking skills. After watching, students should either:
Present the company to the teacher as if they were the entrepreneur.
Give their opinions as potential investors, explaining whether they would invest in the company and why.
To take it a step further, ask students to come up with their own business ideas or products and present them in the next class, either spoken or written. This fosters creativity and practical application of language skills.
2. Ted Talks: New Additions š¤š
We are also excited to add five new Ted TalksĀ activities to our collection. These talks are more advanced, simulating academic lectures, making them excellent practice for TOEFL preparation. Each activity includes:
Watch the Talk: Students can watch the talk with or without subtitles.
Learn Key Vocabulary: Important terms from the talk are highlighted with definitions.
Sample Summary: A sample summary of the talk is provided to aid comprehension.
Comprehension Questions: Questions about the talk come with sample answers.
These activities allow for a robust review of the material. Students not only answer questions about the talk but also practice summarizing it, mimicking the listening, speaking, and writing aspects of the TOEFL.
We hope these new activities bring as much enjoyment and educational value to your students as they have to ours. Happy teaching!
