Hey guys, John from Cool English again. Today I have a great speaking activity I call Creating Questions – 20 topics. Divide the class into teams and have them create and answer questions to win points. I find this a popular activity with all ages if you adapt it correctly.
First, I tell them we need to improve our conversational abilities (which usually gets them interested). I explain that we'll be talking about topics for two minutes. The purpose of the game is to ask and answer questions correctly. I like to award one point for each correct question and one for each correct answer, but you can easily change this to fit your class. Sometimes I only give points for questions, or when I have more advanced students, I only award points if their response is perfect with no mistakes.
With private students or small groups, I sometimes use this as a springboard for conversations. I don’t even mention points or a game, I say that we will work on conversation practice and allow them to choose a topic to begin asking and answering questions. So again, you can adapt it to fit your needs.
Second, for homework, I tell them to choose 2-3 topics and either write questions based on the topic or record themselves talking for 2 minutes about each one.
I hope this activity comes in handy this week and gets your students speaking a little more English.
John
