Cracking Up with "The Best Bad Puns"

Hello to all, John here from Cool English with a new activity update. We're introducing “The Best Bad Puns” for our intermediate and advanced learners. We all know comedy in English can pose challenges for non-native speakers, especially when puns—those clever plays on words—are involved. This activity promises a hearty laugh and an insightful look into the world of dual-meaning vocabulary.

Here's how to get started:

  1. Select a joke to start with.

  2. Encourage students to read the joke, identifying the word or phrase with a double meaning, giving rise to the humor.

  3. Use the “reveal word” feature to display the word or phrase with dual meanings.

  4. Choose “reveal joke” to see a sample explanation. If your students were correct, award them points!

  5. Move on to the next joke, remembering they are supposed to be so bad that they are funny.

There are three batches of jokes in this series. Kick off the laughter in class and assign more entertaining homework. I'm confident your students will be as tickled by this activity as mine were.

See you next week with more enriching content on coolenglish.net!

Warm regards,

John
