Hello, Cool English community! It's John, back with your weekly activity update. This week, I'm thrilled to introduce a fresh activity titled “10 Questions About You”. It's a fantastic tool for enabling students to engage in personal conversations while honing their questioning skills.
How to Use the Activity:
Setting the Scene: Begin by discussing the concept of interviews. What are they? Why are they conducted? This will provide a contextual foundation for the activity.
Pair Up: Divide the class into pairs, designating one student as the interviewer and the other as the interviewee.
Choose Your Set: We’ve prepared three sets of questions. Start with the first question from your chosen set. Simply click on the question to display it full screen.
Assistance on Hand: If any student struggles with pronunciation or is unsure about how to frame the question, they can click on the speaker icon. This offers an audio guide, ensuring clarity and understanding.
Switch Roles: Once the first student answers all the questions, it's time to switch! Now, the interviewer becomes the interviewee and vice versa. Alternatively, the students can take turns asking and responding to questions from the same set.
Intonation Practice: Emphasize the importance of rising intonation when posing questions. Encourage students to echo you as you model the correct intonation for all ten queries.
Advanced Challenge: For students seeking a more rigorous test of their listening and comprehension skills, play the question audio without displaying the text. They can then either respond directly or jot down what they believe the question is.
The beauty of “10 Questions About You” is its adaptability. Whether you’re teaching beginners or advanced learners, this activity can be tailored to suit varying levels of proficiency.
